Behaviour Policy
1. Our policy is based on the following beliefs:
- each person must recognise and respect the individual needs and worth of others
- we must practice and promote a respect and active concern for the environment
- we benefit from different cultures, races, religious beliefs, ages and genders working and learning together
- the learning environment must be safe, caring and personal
- individuals must take responsibility for their actions
- people need to develop skills, knowledge and attitudes to become productive, contributing and fulfilled individuals
- everyone has the right to a learning environment free from disruption or interference that prevents them from reaching their full potential
- staff and students, as well as other groups, are partners in the education process and should work together to ensure maximum success.
2. PUPILS
2.1 Have the right to:
- be treated courteously and fairly by fellow pupils and staff
- be encouraged to do their best and receive praise when deserved
- well planned, resourced and safe courses of high quality as outlined in the Centre's Code of Practice
- a safe environment around the Centre.
- treating other pupils, staff and any others they come into contact with courteously and fairly
- to help to look after their fellow pupils
- to return to their field work sites/classroom promptly and be ready to work at the end of breaks
- to work to the best of their ability
- showing respect for the environment including caring for both plant and animal life under study
- looking after equipment borrowed/used
- not dropping litter
- behaving in a safe and responsible manner at all times.
3.1 Have the right to:
- be treated courteously and fairly by pupils
- expect pupils to listen carefully and follow instructions/work to the best of their ability.
- receive help and backup from visiting staff.
- producing well planned, resourced and safe, high quality courses as outlined in the Centre's Code of Practice and in consultation with visiting staff
- ensuring a safe environment around the Centre
- encouraging pupils to do their best and giving praise where deserved
- ensuring the group are given every opportunity in the best conditions possible to complete the planned activities
- promoting respect from the environment and each other
- promoting self-responsibility.
4.1 Where pupils show that they are able to behave in a safe, courteous and responsible manner, then this will result in them being treated accordingly and may include:
- being able to choose, where possible partners in their working groups
- being under less direct, though still safe, supervision during activities and break times
- being given greater freedom of choice during break times
- being allowed greater freedom in the house during the evening
- a generally more relaxed atmosphere
- the award of certificates for good work/behaviour.
- remove pupils from an activity.
- after discussion with visiting staff, return pupils to school or home.
